Sade Sati: Understanding Saturn's 7.5-Year Transit and Its Effects
What is Sade Sati? Learn about Saturn's transformative 7.5-year transit across your Moon sign -- its effects, challenges, and remedies to navigate this period.

Sade Sati (literally "seven and a half") is one of the most discussed concepts in Vedic astrology. It refers to the approximately 7.5-year period when Saturn (Shani) transits through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from your natal Moon. This period is known for its transformative -- often challenging -- influence on your life.
Phases of Sade Sati
The 7.5-year period is divided into three phases of 2.5 years each: the "Arambha" (beginning) phase when Saturn enters the 12th house from the Moon, bringing subtle changes; the "Madhya" (middle) phase when Saturn crosses the Moon itself, typically the most intense period; and the "Antya" (end) phase as it moves into the 2nd house, often bringing the fruits of your karmic actions.
Remedies During Sade Sati
Classical remedies include: lighting a lamp with sesame oil on Saturdays, feeding crows (considered Shani's vehicle), donating black items (sesame seeds, black cloth, iron), chanting the Shani mantra ("Om Sham Shanaye Namah") 108 times daily, and serving the elderly and underprivileged. Most importantly, maintaining humility, patience, and discipline during this period significantly reduces its challenging effects.
