Manglik Dosha: Myths, Facts, and What It Really Means for Marriage

Is Manglik Dosha really a marriage-breaker? Learn the truth about Mangal Dosha -- its causes, effects, matching rules, and effective remedies.

Manglik Dosha: Myths, Facts, and What It Really Means for Marriage

Manglik Dosha (also called Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha) occurs when Mars (Mangal) is placed in certain houses of the birth chart: the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Ascendant (Lagna). It is one of the most common concerns for marriage matching, but many misconceptions surround it.

What the Classical Texts Say

According to Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Mars in these positions can indicate potential challenges in marriage, including temperament differences, conflicts, or even separation. However, the effect is significantly modified by Mars's dignity, aspects from benefic planets (Jupiter, Venus), and its overall strength in the chart.

When Manglik Dosha is Neutralized

Manglik Dosha is cancelled (nullified) under several conditions: if Mars is in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn); if the Moon or Jupiter aspects Mars; if Venus is strong in the chart; or if the Lagna itself is Aries or Scorpio. A skilled astrologer should evaluate the full chart before making conclusions.

The Best Remedy

The most effective remedy for Manglik Dosha is matching with another Manglik person -- when both partners have Mars in challenging positions, the negative effects are naturally balanced. Other remedies include performing a Mangal Shanti puja, chanting the Mars mantra ("Om Kram Kreem Kraum Sah Bhaumaya Namah"), and donating red items (lentils, coral, red cloth) on Tuesdays.
